| The Scottish border town of Gretna, famous as a wedding venue, boasted two greyhound tracks in the past. The least well known of the two was around the perimeter of the local football team Gretna FC and situated at 3° 4' W 54° 59' N. The track opened in 1945 and was independently run for 38 years. The football team rose from lowly beginnings to become part of the Scottish Football League and greyhound racing ceased in 1983. |

I am grateful to Steve Robley who had a number of links with the race track. He remembers the track at Gretna Raydal Park running around the perimeter of the former Gretna FC. Steve worked the traps for over 10 years and was brought up with greyhounds playing a big part of his life. His mum schooled pups for White City, Brough Park, Gosforth Park Newcastle, and also trained them to run at Gretna Raydal Park. |
